5 Ways To Get The Best IQOS Experience

Want the keep your IQOS performing at its best? There are only 5 steps to do it. Simple!

All five steps can be found in the video instructions you receive after registering your IQOS, but we’ve included them here for you as well.
STEP 1: Fully charged
So the first thing you should do is make sure it’s fully charged. If it’s brand new, it could take up to 2 hours to fully charge.

You can check the charge level by briefly pressing the Pocket Charger Button. Don’t unplug your IQOS ORIGINALS until all 4 status lights are glow white. 

While you might be tempted to use any C-type charging cable, the IQOS ORIGINALS Power Adapter and charging cable that came with your device will give you the best charge. 
STEP 2: Set it up right
It may sound obvious, but if your IQOS isn’t set up right, it won’t work right. Once it’s ready to go, you’re ready to go.

Start by turning on the holder by pressing the Pocket Charger button for 4 seconds. Take your favorite HEETS stick and gently insert it with the filter facing out to the silver line. Now wait for 20 seconds as your IQOS begins heating the tobacco to the perfect temperature. 

When your IQOS vibrates, it’s ready. You’ll have 6 minutes or 14 puffs, whichever comes first, of real tobacco taste and satisfaction.
STEP 3: No twisting
It may be tempting to snuggly twist a HEETS stick into place, but that could damage the heating blade. And if the blade is damaged, your tobacco won’t heat properly. 

So whether you’re inserting, removing or just using your IQOS, never twist the HEETS stick.

STEP 4: Lift it up
After you finish a session, don’t rush to pull the stick out of the holder. If you lift the cap up before removing the stick, you’re less likely to have tobacco fall out of the used HEETS stick. 

Don’t worry if some tobacco residue builds up because there’s always Step 5.
STEP 5: Keep it clean
You should fully clean your IQOS after each HEETS pack. But a “full cleaning” only takes about a minute. So if you want to clean it more often, go for it! Just make sure you’re only using IQOS cleaning products, and that your device has fully cooled down (at least 30 seconds after a session).

The IQOS Cleaning Tool will remove most of the residue and loose tobacco that may have accumulated in your device. But to get the optimal clean, use an IQOS Cleaning Stick for the finishing touches.

Never use water, soaps, compressed air or other liquids to clean your IQOS. They could damage the electronics or other components.

Getting To Know IQOS

Let’s start with the basics: IQOS is not a vape pen nor a cigarette, it’s a real alternative. IQOS uses HEATCONTROL™ technology to heat tobacco, not burn it. That means you get the real taste and satisfaction of tobacco without the fire and ash.

How To “Smoke” IQOS
“Smoking” IQOS isn’t exactly accurate. When tobacco burns, it creates smoke and ash. Most people say they “use” IQOS instead. That’s because IQOS heats tobacco instead of burning it. 
Using IQOS
Start by removing the holder from the pocket charger. Make sure it’s charged by pressing down on the Pocket Charger Button and checking how many lights glow. If it’s 4, you’re fully charged and ready to go.

Gently insert a HEETS stick into the holder to the line on the filter with the filter facing out. Be sure not to twist it, otherwise you might damage the heating blade. 

Now just let your IQOS warm up. It’ll vibrate once it’s ready.

You’ll get a second vibration about 15 seconds before a session ends. When you’re done, remove the tobacco stick and discard it like any other trash. Close the cap on your IQOS and let it charge for another 3 minutes before using it again.
Why Does It Taste Different Than Cigarettes?
The simple answer is because cigarettes burn tobacco, IQOS heats it. You get the true taste of tobacco in a nicotine-containing aerosol with the ash. In fact, if you use IQOS exclusively, you might realize you stop liking the taste of conventional cigarettes after a while.
HEETS vs Cigarettes
HEETS are designed specifically for IQOS. They contain a carefully selected blend of tobacco that’s been finely ground and specially prepared to be heated. You don’t light them like regular cigarettes.

One common question is why HEETS are smaller than cigarettes. The length, shape and diameter of HEETS are all tailored to be heated in an IQOS ORIGINALS. Every part of the tobacco stick is designed to play a specific role.

Each HEETS has a cooling plug made of a corn-based material. The air flow chamber connects the tobacco plug to the cooling plug to pull the aerosol from the warmed tobacco to you. Encompassing the entire stick is a protective wrap that allows each HEETS to deliver a consistent taste.

What’s In A HEETS Stick?

Each HEETS stick is a marvel of engineering with a range of components and ingredients designed to work together to deliver real cigarette-like satisfaction without the fire or ash.
What Are HEETS Made Of?
HEETS are made of a blend of real tobacco. After selecting only the finest tobacco leaves, we grind them into a powder and mix it with water, glycerin, guar gum, propylene glycol and cellulose fibers. We dry out this mixture and form tobacco sheets which are folded to form the tobacco plug of a HEETS stick.

Propylene glycol is a food additive used in many products like mouthwash and cake mixes. It’s vegetarian-safe and helps keep HEETS fresh and consistent. 

Glycerin is a natural ingredient that acts as an aerosol former. Guar gum is derived from vegetables and binds the tobacco into sheets. We collect cellulose fibers from wood to strengthen the tensile resistance of the tobacco sheets.

HEETS also contain flavorings, and some contain menthol, but each has its own unique, proprietary recipe:

Bronze: Rich & Warm tobacco experience. Mellow and aromatic tobacco blend with warm character.  

Red: Balanced & Woody tobacco experience. Rounded, toasted tobacco blend with woody nuances.  

Amber: Balanced & Roasted tobacco experience. Rounded, toasted tobacco blend with slight woody nuances. 

Green: Menthol & Balanced tobacco experience. Balanced menthol coupled with nuanced toasted tobacco blend. 

Blue: Menthol & Deep tobacco experience. Deep menthol combined with a mellow tobacco blend.

What Type of Tobacco Is Used?
We use three varieties of tobacco: Virginia, Burley and Oriental. Their unique combinations of sweetness, richness and strength are blended into our recipes alongside the flavoring. Even if it’s from the same plant, not all tobacco leaves are equal. We only select the highest quality from the harvest, discarding any stems and veins to leave only the pure leaf. 
Why Is There A Filter?
In cigarettes, filters catch large particles of combustion products (ash, soot, burnt paper, etc.) and absorb some of the tar. But in IQOS, there is no combustion. The filter serves a different purpose—cooling.

The filter cools the aerosol to a comfortable temperature and removes excess moisture.

It’s made from a biodegradable compound called polylactide and two acetate rings. Polylactide comes from polylactic acid which is produced from corn starch and sugar cane. Unlike some cigarettes, there is absolutely no plastic in our filter.
Why Are HEETS So Short?
We like to think of them as right sized. They’ve been specially designed for the IQOS ORIGINALS device to provide cigarette-like satisfaction without the fire and ash from burning tobacco.

Each tobacco stick is packed with a tobacco plug designed to be heated by a heating blade. Because it’s powdered tobacco packed into the plug, it takes up less space. The heating process also produces significantly less harmful and potentially harmful chemicals.

But just because it’s smaller, doesn’t mean it’s weaker. You still get roughly the same levels of nicotine from IQOS as you do from cigarettes.
